"Learn your theories as well as you can, but put them aside when you touch the miracle of the living soul"
Carl Jung

Below is a brief overview of my diverse clinical experience and areas of specialisation....

Individual Therapy
Adults, children and adolescents concerned about their mental and emotional health, such as depression, anxiety, stress, anger, grief, trauma, relationships, parenting etc.
I also provide counselling to carers, people referred from an employee assistance program (EAP) and people seeking victim of crime compensation to heal from trauma.

Couple Therapy
Addressing issues related to intimacy, communication, trust, betrayal, parenting, life transitions, gender roles, power, step and blended family difficulties, couples in high conflict and those struggling with post separation issues
.

Family Therapy
Primarily, my family therapy work has been in child and adolescent mental health, emotional and behavioural issues. A
s an adolescent family therapist within the "RAPS program" of Relationships Australia, Syd., innovative methods were required to work therapeutically with adolescents and their families to intervene in the process of family breakdown, the prevention of youth homelessness, truancy, family violence, substance abuse and behavioural and mental health problems.

As a family therapist and coordinator of the family services team at The Family Centre, Tweed Heads South, I worked with families needing assistance with life transitions, parenting and couple conflict, child and adolescent emotional / behavioural difficulties and relationship security. I also provided intensive family casework with families at risk of child abuse and neglect; staff supervision and program development.

From 2012 to 2018 I providing adolescent family therapy and mediation within the "Reconnect" and "Getting It Together" programs of Social Futures, Ballina. This work involves individual and family therapy & mediation, parent support and coaching, and group work to prevent the breakdown of relationships and the risk of youth homelessness, truancy, family violence, substance abuse and behavioural and mental health issues.

Since 2008 I have maintained a private practice providing individual, couple, family therapy and parenting consultations; trauma counselling to victims of crime; consultant clinical services to local agencies; professional clinical supervision of health professionals; and professional training to human service workers. As a registered supervisor of AAFT, I support family therapy trainees (who are already experienced health professionals) complete their supervision requirements for clinical membership of AAFT.

Since 2015 I have been providing Systemic Family Therapy supervision / training / consultation. I have been contracted by various agencies:
- The Child and Family Counselling Team of Catholic Care Northern Territory
- The Child and Family Counselling Team from NSW Community Health, Goonellabah.
- The Youth and Family Mental Health Teams from the NSW Health, Northern NSW Local Health District
- Primary and secondary School Counselling Team of the Catholic Schools Office - Diocese of Lismore

Attachment  Based Family Therapy for Depressed and Suicidal Adolescents (ABFT)
I have trained in ABFT from 2014 to 2017 and have worked with many adolescents and families, with successful outcomes. ABFT is an empirically supported approach currently being disseminated in Australia, predominantly Queensland health adolescent mental health services. ABFT is an emotion-focused, trauma-based, process-oriented and experiential approach to treating adolescent's with mood disorders, and their families.

Trauma, Abuse and Violence
Many people I have worked with over the years, from young to old, have been a victim of violence often from a family member. I have worked with traumatised children and adolescents, and those in 'out of home care', men and women who were sexually abused as children and/or were exposed to domestic violence, I provide family therapy where an adolescent is violent in the home, I have supported women and their children escape domestic violence, and worked with men who perpetrate domestic violence.
Over a 4 year period at
The Family Centre, Tweed Heads, I co-facilitated a behaviour change course for men called "Men Aware", for men who use power, control and violence in their relationships. The far majority of these men were also once victims of violence, often from their fathers. This intensive course included comprehensive assessment of risk, rigorous entry requirements and contact with the men's partners to monitor risk through the involvement of a local women's centre.

Child Trauma and Insecure Attachment

While working at The Family Centre, Tweed Heads, in response to a clear community need in parenting traumatised children, I developed and implemented a program called "Parenting the Hurt Child" for parents and carers over a 4 year period. This included information on child/ parent attachment, trauma and brain development and parenting practices that are required, and different to mainstream practices. This course was also adapted and delivered to 100 foster carers at a respite camp, health professionals at a family services conference, community services event and an in house presentation for Interrelate, Lismore.

Addictions
Group facilitator and program development of a mindfulness, distress tolerance and meditation program to develop self-awareness and emotion regulation. Kathleen York House (residential drug and alcohol rehabilitation program for woman and children).
Counsellor and group-work at South Pacific Private Hospital, a residential treatment program for people experiencing addictions, eating and mood disorders and relationship difficulties.
